Do you dream of working with the stars? Are you the kind of PA who could make life just that little bit easier for Madonna or Leona Lewis? Would you like to experience the jet style lifestyle that comes with being a celebrity PA? Well, every celebrity needs a PA, so you could end up being a PA to the star of your dreams. It is possible and it is achievable!
But the bad news is that celebrities want PAs who really are at the top of their field. They don’t want someone who will be demanding or place their own egos in the way of the celebrity. They also want discretion, so if you are a celebrity PA, you have to be prepared to look the other way sometimes and not tell your friends too many gory details of life with a celebrity. You also will probably have to sign a confidentiality clause which assures the celebrity that you won’t talk to the media: ever.
All celebrity PAs, with only a very few exceptions, have started as humble PAs and have demonstrated drive, ambition and dedication. Then they have risen through the ranks, going from being a PA to someone in the lower ranks, to being a PA to senior management.
However, many PAs have also started their working career in the music industry, whether working for record companies or in TV radio. They may start off in very lowly positions and then when a vacancy for a PA comes up, managing to secure the position. From there it is easy to get noticed, spotted or recommended and next thing you know, Madonna’s team are on the telephone, asking you to be a PA.
So try to get a position in the entertainment world. Don’t worry at first if it isn’t a PA job, but whatever role you land, make sure that you shine and show off your interpersonal and organisational skills and from there it is easy to move onwards and upwards.
If you talk to a recruitment agency and let them know your plans and make it clear that you will do anything, including making the tea until you secure a dream PA job, they may well be able to help you to get established. Then it is up to you!
